The Buffalo Club Deshler
The Buffalo Club Deshler. It's a sunny afternoon in 1973. You're meeting Tony Bill and Paul Newman for drinks. Roberta Flack is on the hi-fi, and the patio is spattered with dappled light. You need a good solid drink. The Deshler, which is named for a WWI boxer named Dave Deshler (but of course, you knew that), is just the ticket:
2 oz Knob Creek rye whiskey
1 oz Dubbonet Rouge
2 glamorous splotches Cointreau
2 vigorous shakes Peychaud's bitters
1 orange peel the color of Senta Berger's lustrous mane
We pour ours over the rocks. It's hot out. —Henry Gondorff
